Sumatra beans is really good. Medium roast and it’s smooth. We really are enjoying Costa Rica, espresso and Sumatra beans on daily basis

I rarely order medium roast beans due to my passion for dark roast beans, but I am always open to trying a medium roast with the hope of finding something smooth yet not feeling weak, no matter how I make it. Sumatra beans are the ones that won the hearts of the whole family. I use a French press, a 1:15 ratio, set the kettle at ~205F, and let it rest for 10 minutes instead of my usual 8, and this brew turned out to be an excellent brew.

I am usually high on really good Sumatran coffee, however this particular batch from Kalani could have been fresher. Quick shipping, decent price, and certainly 10 times better than Grocery Outlet's own brand of Sumatran. There are a lot of Sumatran roasters that simply roast beyond medium, which should NEVER be the case of beans from this country. Thank goodness Kalani roasted theirs correctly. Kalani did not specify which part of Sumatra the beans came from and my favorite is Mandheling. Based on the flavor of this bag, they were definitely from Sumatra island. I will buy again, based on price/value, but freshness was an issue this time. Peets Coffee makes a very good Mandheling Sumatran in a so called "aged roast", but way over priced. Anyway, many more roasters out there that can ship so I will try more this month. The very best so far in my life has been from Truckee California at a shop called Truckee Express, which no longer exists I guess.
